The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 And water everflowing. 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 and raised couches 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
