The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On studded thrones. 15 facing one another. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and banana trees, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgins. 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
