The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And shade extended 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
