The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those on the right hand; 38
