The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 on raised couches. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
