The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining face to face. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
