The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and shade extended, 30 And water everflowing. 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
