The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And extended shade, 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 and raised couches 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
