The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude of those of old 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 and spreading shade 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those on the right hand; 38
