The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and a few from later times. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits abounding 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
