The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 there is no denying its coming 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and a few from later times. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And raised couches. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
