The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 facing one another. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 and extended shade, 30 Gushing water, 31 and fruits abounding 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And carpets raised. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 We have made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
