The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 abasing, exalting, 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 You will become three categories: 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And shade extended 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
