The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and extended shade, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
