The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining face to face. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And spreading shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those on the right hand; 38
