The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 Gushing water, 31 and fruits abounding 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
