The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 like hidden pearls, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And extended shade, 30 And water gushing, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 and made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
