The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 facing one another. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
