The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And extended shade, 30 and flowing water, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those on the right hand; 38
