The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 We have made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
