The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And extended shade, 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
