These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 from replacing you by others like yourselves or changing your forms and re-creating you in forms that you know nothing of. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
