A multitude of those of old 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum. 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
