A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin (of disbelief). 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 And our forefathers [as well]?" 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital! 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Do you yourselves create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
