A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 They will live amid the scorching, 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 They used to say: “What! Once we are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, shall we still be raised to a new life from the dead? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 will be brought together for an appointment on an appointed day. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 And drink over it scalding water, 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital! 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 did you create it or did We? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten – 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 Nay! we are deprived. 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
