A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers – 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
