A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all – the former and the latter.” 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers – 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten – 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 "We are ruined, 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Then magnify the Name of thy Lord, the All-mighty. 74
