a large throng from the ancients, 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 (And say:) "We have fallen into debt; 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
