A multitude of those of old 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
