A company of the former peoples 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients?' 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 Will all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
