A crowd of earlier generations 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor good. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 Will all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day. 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 and will thereupon have to drink [many a draught] of burning despair 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Have ye seen that which ye emit? 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
