a large group of the earlier people 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 neither cool nor good. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum. 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital! 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 from replacing you by others like yourselves or changing your forms and re-creating you in forms that you know nothing of. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 “We have been penalised; 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
