A throng of the ancients 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 And our forefathers [as well]?" 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 Have you ever considered the seed which you cast upon the soil? 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 (And say:) "We have fallen into debt; 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
