A crowd of earlier generations 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 and will thereupon have to drink [many a draught] of burning despair 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
