These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 And drink over it scalding water, 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Then magnify the Name of thy Lord, the All-mighty. 74
