Al-Waaqe'ah 2 of 3
A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Then magnify the Name of thy Lord, the All-mighty. 74
