A numerous company from among the first, 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you considered the seed you spill? 58 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Is it you who cultivate it, or is it We Who develop it? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
