a multitude of the ancients, 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 The Companions of the Left. O Companions of the Left! 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 That, "We have indeed been penalised!" 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
