A crowd of earlier generations 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 And the fellows on the left hand; how miserable shall the fellows on the left hand be! 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 will be brought together for an appointment on an appointed day. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
