Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The Reality (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)! 1 How tremendous is the true event! 2 Would that you knew (in detail) what the Inevitable is! 3 Samood and Ad called the striking calamity a lie. 4 So regarding the Thamud, they were destroyed by a terrible scream. 5 as for Aad, they were destroyed by a howling, violent wind 6 which He let loose upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession; so that (if you had been there) you might have seen people lying prostrate, as though they were uprooted trunks of hollowed palm trees. 7 Beholdest thou any of them remaining? 8 And Pharaoh, and those before him, and the Cities Overthrown, committed habitual Sin. 9 And disobeyed (each) the messenger of their Lord; so He punished them with an abundant Penalty. 10 When the water rose in flood, We bore you in the ark, 11 so that We might make it an instructive event for you, and retentive ears might preserve its memory. 12 And when the trumpet shall sound one blast 13 And the earth and mountains heaved and crushed to powder with one levelling blow, 14 then, on that day, the Terror shall come to pass, 15 And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm. 16 And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them]. 17 On that Day you shall be exposed, and no secret of yours will remain hidden. 18 Then he that will be given his Record in his right hand will say: "Ah here! Read ye my Record! 19 Surely, I knew that I should meet my reckoning," 20 Then he shall be in a life well-pleasing 21 In an elevated garden, 22 with clusters of fruit within easy reach. 23 'Eat and drink with wholesome appetite for that you did long ago, in the days gone by.' 24 But as for him who is given his record in his left hand, he will say: Oh, would that I had not been given my book 25 and knew nothing of my reckoning. 26 "Ah! Would that (Death) had made an end of me! 27 My wealth hath not availed me, 28 Gone from me is my authority." 29 [Allah will say], "Seize him and shackle him. 30 and then let him enter hell, 31 “Then bind him inside a chain which is seventy arm-lengths.” 32 Verily, He used not to believe in Allah, the Most Great, 33 nor would he urge the feeding of the poor. 34 Therefor hath he no lover here this day, 35 “Nor any food except the pus discharged from the people of hell.” 36 that none excepting the sinners eat.' 37
