Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The indubitable event! 1 What is the sure calamity! 2 And what would make you realize what the sure calamity is! 3 Thamood and Ad cried lies to the Clatterer. 4 the Thamud were destroyed by a terrible storm of thunder and lightning; 5 and the 'Ad were destroyed by a furious wind 6 which He let loose upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession; so that (if you had been there) you might have seen people lying prostrate, as though they were uprooted trunks of hollowed palm trees. 7 Do you then see of them one remaining? 8 And Pharaoh, and those before him, and the Cities Overthrown, committed habitual Sin. 9 They defied their Lord's messenger, so He seized them with an ever-tightening grip. 10 Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried your ancestors in the sailing ship 11 so that We might make all this a [lasting] reminder to you all, and that every wide-awake ear might consciously take it in. 12 When the single blast is sounded on the trumpet, 13 And the earth with the mountains shall be lifted up and crushed with one crash, 14 then, on that day, the Terror shall come to pass, 15 and heaven shall be split, for upon that day it shall be very frail, 16 The angels will appear by its sides and, on that Day, eight [angels] will bear your Lord's throne above them. 17 On that day ye will be exposed; not a secret of you will be hidden. 18 Then as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand will say: "Take, read my Record! 19 Behold, I did know that [one day] I would have to face my account! 20 So he shall have an agreeable life 21 in a lofty Garden 22 The fruits of which are near at hand: 23 Eat and drink at ease for that which you have sent on before you in days past! 24 However, those who will receive the books of the records of their deeds in their left hands will say, "We wish that this record had never been given to us 25 And had not known what is my account. 26 Oh, would that this [death of mine] had been the end of me! 27 My wealth has not availed me, 28 Gone from me is my authority." 29 (The stern command will say): "Seize ye him, and bind ye him, 30 and then let him enter Hell. 31 Then fasten him with a chain seventy cubits long: 32 Behold, he never believed in God the All-mighty, 33 Nor did he encourage the feeding of the poor. 34 and so, no friend has here today, 35 "Nor hath he any food except the corruption from the washing of wounds, 36 that none excepting the sinners eat.' 37
