The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 but, We see it as near! 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 save those that pray 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's torment 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 [not giving way to their desires] with any but their spouses - that is, those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock]: for then, behold, they are free of all blame, 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
