The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 and of all the kinsfolk who ever sheltered him, 13 and all those on earth. 14 No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell], 15 Dragging by the head, 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Not so, however, those who consciously turn towards God in prayer. 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, 28 and those who guard their private parts, 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits-- 31 And those who of their trusts and their covenant are keepers. 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
