The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient with gracious patience. 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Indeed, the human was created grudging and impatient. 19 Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 except those that pray, 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 and those who guard their private parts, 29 [not giving way to their desires] with any but their spouses - that is, those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock]: for then, behold, they are free of all blame, 30 So those who desire more than this – it is they who are the transgressors. 31 And those who keep their trusts and covenants; 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
