The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
AN INQUIRER ASKED for the affliction that is to come 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 they see it as being far off; 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 And the hills become as flakes of wool, 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 His wife and his brother, 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
