The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 So, (O Prophet), persevere with gracious perseverance. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 Those who are constant in their prayer 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
