The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 And the family in which he was. 13 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 stripping away his skin, 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 and amass [wealth] and thereupon withhold [it from their fellow-men]. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 Not so those devoted to Prayer;- 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 and are steadfast in their prayers. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
