The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 and of whoever [else] lives on earth, all of them - so that he could but save himself. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 That would skin the scalp. 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Surely man is created of a hasty temperament 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he grows niggardly. 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 Are free of blame, 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
