The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 except those that pray, 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 and in whose possessions there is a due share, acknowledged [by them,] 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 and those who guard their private parts, 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 These it is who in the gardens [of paradise] shall be honoured! 35
