The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A doubter once demanded that punishment be immediately meted out, 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 from punishing them. He is the Lord of the Ascending Stairways, 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 Dragging by the head, 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 and amass [wealth] and thereupon withhold [it from their fellow-men]. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 and guard their private parts 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
